TTC = Toronto Transit Commission

Proposed red, white and blue colour scheme on golf shirts and ball caps too closely resembles a rival team’s jerseys for the workers’ liking.

Toronto transit workers are irked over proposed new uniforms that would see operators decked out in the colours of the Montreal Canadiens.

Photos of a red, white and blue colour scheme on golf shirts and ball caps have circulated among TTC staff, some of whom complain the designs too closely reflect the Toronto Maple Leafs’ rival hockey team.

Bob Kinnear, president of the union that represents TTC operators, told CBC the colours are “very dissatisfying to our members here in Toronto” and that if the transit commission imposed them, workers would likely boycott the shirts.

I like that. I mean, I don't care about teams any more and I find sports fandom to be pretty ridiculous overall - but this goes to something deeper. It's a nice little piece of Canadiana.

Fucking right - boycott that shit!

I remember writing in to the Star when they suggested Leaf fans cheer for the Habs because they were the only Canadian team left in the playoffs a couple seasons ago.

Fuck that. Leaf fans do not cheer for the Canadiens under any circumstances, it's as simple as that.

Leaf fans only wish for death to the Habs.

Would the NY Times ask people to cheer for the Red Sox if the Yankees were not participating?

plommer, is there an apprenticeship to become a leaf fan.

I want in.
You are born into it, pal.

This Toronto/Montreal rivalry goes back decades to when Montreal was the most important city in the country, it was bigger and richer than Toronto until approximately the late 1960's. Toronto was the poor cousin of Montreal until that time.

My city really started to become great in the 1970's, it has skyrocketed to be the most prominent/important city in Canada.
It is now the business/finance centre of the country and home to the most valuable franchise in the NHL.
Leaf hockey is everything in Toronto.

The hockey rivalry was natural. Making fun of the Leafs was and still is a popular pastime in Quebec. We don't like each other.

I'm really looking forward to the Leaf/Habs battles this season.

The Leafs are going to smack around the Habs like the bitches they are this year.
