However, we've decided( me and Matty) that the best solution is to eliminate points altogether, go by wins and keep the shootout.

Exactly. Look at the NHL standings. What a ridiculously over-complicated mess. It should be so freaking simple. You win or you lose.

If you don't like losing in OT or shootout, get better at them. Or else go get some therapy - but no pity points.

Maybe it effects the playoff eligibility for a couple of marginal team. Who cares? Stop being so marginal.
