I think the court got it right.

Parents should not be using gratuitous or premeditated punishment on children. But two constitutional rights trump any further punishment of the offending mother here. The implied right of parenting and the enumerated right oof pursuit of liberty.

Court here found a good balance between interfering with the implied right of parenting and protection of the minor child, stopping short of takking away the womans liberty.
