Things in the English language that make no sense to me

Among many others, these are things that I see all the time and go, why in the hell?

More over, I find it completely annoying when writing a name or word that has a silent letter the holds affect on enunciation and/or pronunciation of said word. Why, why am I wasting my time, writing or typing an extra that bares no affect on it?

I can use ph to sound like F and I can also use PH to sound like V.....

But then sometimes you just use the traditional pronunciations of the individual letters. For example, uphill. It is not pronounced uffill. It is a regular p sound followed by a regular h sound.

So yeah.
