Teela Need Some Recommendations For Hilton Head/Savannah

Will be vacationing with family in Hilton Head Island for the weekend. Was hoping you can recommend some restaurants in your neck of the woods..kids friendly. Anything else to see in Savannah while there? Wife mentioned something about a ghost tour? :help:
 
Savannah has been sketchy lately. If you stay in the tourist areas, you'll be fine. The Pirate House is a good kid-friendly restaurant that has lots of history. Moon River is a decent place to eat and rumored to be one of the most haunted. It's been on lots of ghost hunting shows. Any of the restaurants on River Street and Bay Street will be family friendly. I'm not sure about ghost tours. TOM and his family went on one a few days before I had the tiny human, so I stayed home. He said it was horrible. I'll ask him what company it was. Is there a specific type of restaurant that you're looking for?
 
try Paula Deen's original restaurant if you like fat and iced teas....

I am a geeky boring tourist so I enjoyed taking the trolly tours and hearing the history and seeing all the spots where many movies like Forest Gump had been filmed. The cemetary by the big church is cool too

We are staying in Hilton Head Island in the touristy area by the beach. We will look for those restaurants when we go to Savannah for dinner. Will check out the ghost tours when we go there. If it's too scary we may skip this time since the kids will be there.

How is the weather? We haven't seen the sun for 5 days in Atlanta. Rain and cloudy and unseasonably cool.
 
Hot, hot, hot...sunny everyday, but storms roll in during the afternoon. It's been doing that the last week, which is typical for here. I love HHI, but I'm not sure about family friendly areas outside of the beach areas. The big church is The Cathedral of St John (on Abercorn) and the cemetery is right next door. Bonaventure is more famous and is located on the way toward Tybee Island. I would avoid the horse carriages. Too hot and a few horses have had issues lately (accidents with cars). There are several tours that are decent, like the trolley tours. There are haunted hearse tours, too.
 
We will avoid the casinos. We are coming in Friday and leaving Sunday so we will try to squeeze as much as we can. Kids want to play on the beach so I may have to drag them to Savannah.

We will try to visit again on St. Patrick's day and do more stuff if we don't see a lot this time.

Last week, the maiden voyage of the casino boat from Savannah ended up with the boat stuck on a sandbar for 36 hours. The passengers had to LEAP from the casino boat into boats that were sent by the Coast Guard. I'm sure the next trip will be better.

St. Patrick's Day is NUTS in Savannah. Good luck, sir!
