When i first started in the business, I used to do the high steel rigging and supervising of those structures.... I know the guys that were working for the company and some of the riggers that were in charge of the setup... in order for that structure to have been assembled, it would have had to be inspected by an engineer, stamped and signed off.... from what I heard the staging company was at odds with the engineer and somehow the engineer still signed off on the job... I have a good idea what happened from the pictures..

I feel very badly for everyone that was there... I heard that it was the drum tech for RADIOHEAD that was killed.

as i am hearing more... apparently the weight of the Radiohead concert gear was very close, too close, to the capacity of the structure.... at this point, you are assuming that everything is operating at 100%...

If you look at this picture... you can clearly see that the front of the roof is sitting right on the stage; this means that the total failure was at one or both of these places..once the total weight of the equipment settles on the stage; the rest of the structure will remain in the air because it no longer has too great a force acting upon it.

Isn't Physics neat?
