I wrote them with the specific people and occasion in mind. They are impressionistic. Like with Steve and Claire, they had recently gotten a new house which they and their two girls were putting a lot of themselves into. I had observed how much he loved the comfort of it and his little family after stressful days at work. He talked about it and I could see it. It was clearly a profound spiritual thing in his life - and it applied to Claire too. When I closed my eyes and thought about them and what their marriage means, that became the obvious starting point ---> I built around the theme ---> it became When I Come Home to You.
Similar deal with my sister and Eric and the song This Shining Love. They seemed to be kinda goofy about each other in a way that rose above mundane reality. If you could make out the words to the song you would see how that's the theme. Repeated hints of the supernatural.
Plus it carries statements relating it directly to the moment, the occasion. For one thing, it makes reference to the month of February which was the actual month. But also: There's a feeling that comes along once in a life. But it's more than a feeling - and this is the night.
Proud of those songs.
