Still confusing but see NZ run rate is 4 something which isn't as good I guess! Are overs like outs? NZ had 14 overs and 5 numbers showed up but then went to commercial! Now says overs 15:1! 15:2 etc. etc ..

More like HRs, but unlike baseball, there are 2 "home-runs" in cricket.

When it hits the ground and goes beyond the ropes, it's 4 runs.

When it goes over the rope, like a hr, without hitting the ground, it's 6 runs.

that's what they are counting, 15.1 means they have played 15 and 1 ball, they count 15.2, 15.3, 15.4, 15.5, 16, 16.1 etc

this format of the game is set to 20 Overs or 120 balls before that team's inning is over

Depends on format.

One day internationals (ODIs) and Twenty 20 (T20): 1 inning per team

Test cricket: 2 innings per team.

81-9: 81 = number of runs NZ have scored, 9 = number of wickets they have lost

Unlike baseball, once a batsman is "out" they can't come in to bat again.

What does a wicket do for the team?

Basically, it's this:

The batting team will try and preserve wickets, and attempt to score as many runs as they can.

The bowling team wants to take as many wickets as it can, aka have as many players on the other team "out" as they can.

Each team has 10 wickets.

The inning for the 1st team ends when they either run out of overs or wickets.

1 wicket = 1 player on batting team.

And NZ are all out for 86. Woeful.

see mister monkey, this is 12 runs in 3 balls, this changes the run rate and alters the dynamic of the game, in this one it's meaningless but in a closer game this would be big

it's all about "where are you at" as the game progresses
