NICOSIA The Cyprus Football Association (CFA) on Saturday ordered the postponement of the afternoon match between Enosis Neon Paralimniou and Ermis Aradippou because of unnaturally high betting.

In a statement, the CFA said the decision was taken by the executive committee which examined all the information before it as regards the bets placed on the specific game.

Postponing a game can only be an extraordinary measure and in future the state should ensure the integrity of the league, giving the CFA the necessary authority to safeguard its games.

It said that it would be asking for an urgent meeting with the Finance Minister and the chairman of the House Legal Affairs Committee.

It is calling on all betting companies to enter into separate agreements with it to offer and exchange information on bets placed on local teams. The federation is also asking all betting companies which have accepted bets for the specific game to cancel them and for the bets not to be valid when the match is held. It also underlined its determination to combat possible match fixing. But it said it would require help since it cannot on its own deal with a problem which has become a scourge for world football.

No that's the first time I have seen it. I think what happens now is that Betfair is sending the info to the leagues and if there is something suspicious in the betting patterns they take action. For example if winning team B at HT and Team A wins the game is offered 20 to 1 odds before the markets open and is bet down to 2 to 1 they know something is fishy.

back when betfair was blowing up and got in the map, lea put pressure on them, and they called out a series of tennis matches. but that was back then before the initiative was theirs.
