A 39-year-old man died early Saturday, after he apparently set his Brooklyn apartment on fire while smoking in bed, sources said.

The man, who was not immediately identified, was unconscious with burns to his face and body when firefighters found him inside the second-floor flat of the Ocean Ave. building in Midwood about 12:30 a.m., authorities said.

Emergency workers rushed the victim to Kings County Hospital, but he could not be saved.

Investigators suspect the man set his mattress on fire while smoking in bed, sources said.
