Poster A makes a post

Poster B takes slight/huge exception to Poster A's post

Poster A says, "CALM DOWN PAL I WAS ONLY KIDDING/BEING SARCASTIC"

Poster B looks like their being overly sensitive/combative

Is "I was only kidding/I was being sarcastic" the new go-to back pedal move or has this been going on for a long time and I never noticed it? Or is it not back pedaling but merely a new fad (think planking)?

I was hesitant about making a new thread just for this but I didn't want to shit all over Random Thoughts and it's a slow night.

SALUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rarely is it a good idea to try and explain that you were joking, being sarcastic or not serious. There are creative ways of showing that perhaps you weren't serious. Sometimes ignoring the offended posters comment is also a better alternative.

I can only answer for myself.

I am sarcastic most of the time. If I don't like you while I am being sarcastic I am trying to piss you off or just be a dick and it's intentional. If I like you I mean no harm, I am just trying to get a rise out of you or a laugh. The only time I will back pedal is if I actually strike a nerve or hurt the feelings of someone I like.

I do explain OFTEN that I am being sarcastic because I tend to use a very deadpan delivery offline and it doesn't always translate online.
