Now I have to translate a baptism certificate. Why is the US govt requiring baptism certificates for visas? What if she was hindu?

I guess they just want a certificate with names of the child and the parents. Will your self-translation be sufficient ? Wouldn't they ask for notarization ?

They also require her birth certificate that has all of that on it. They only ask for a loose translation.
