Dude, your sovereign is the head of her own religion! The words to "Oh Canada" are the least of your worries. Say what you will about the U.S., but we don't let our elected officials run the state religion at least.

Before someone else beats me to it, I did find a reference to God in the Star Spangled Banner's oft unsung fourth verse. It doesn't bother me though, the same declaration is on our money too.

O! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: 'In God is our trust.'
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!http://gamelive.com/forum/#cite_note-11

well.... I doubt that muddy was referring to the 4th verse of the star spangled banner.....so what other God reference is he talking about....

Are you thinking of God Bless America Mudcat? that ain't the national anthem no mo.....c'mon

My feelings are fairly ambivalent when it comes to religion, our monarchy and for that matter the very concept of nation states.
Fair to say therefore that I dont really care that my National Anthem is "God save The Queen".

Nationalism is a crock of shit. right on Dunder.

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Archie have you met Mudcat? He's Canadian.

Hey Mudcat, how would you feel about a nation's school system that forces it's children to say this "Pledge of Allegiance" every morning:

I pledge allegiance
To the flag
Of the United States of America
And to the Republic
For which it stands
One nation
Under God
Indivisible
With liberty and justice for all

I remember that shit. I was 9, and couldn't believe they made kids do this. Under god is the least offensive part.
And they used to say the Soviets would indoctrinate children:lmao: what a joke

I am against changing the words to things people wrote unless its parody just to fit one person's scope of things. To me that smacks of censorship and I am anti that in all forms.

I'm a convinced atheist, but this stuff doesn't bother me one bit. These lyrics were written before Star Wars and Harry Potter and jjgold and chatroulette - back when God monopolized people's free time. He's not so hip anymore yet he will always be a major mythology in the history of mankind. Let him think he's still relevant.

Besides the Pledge of Allegiance, I also had the Little League Pledge which we said before each game.

Little League Pledge

I trust in God
I love my country
And will respect its laws
I will play fair
And strive to win
But win or lose
I will always do my best

The overall concept isn't a bad one. Fair play. Respect the rules and play within them. Try your best whether you win or lose. Those are good things.

God should not be mixed with politics or national anthems since it doesn't exist.

If you were trying to confuse the hell out of me, you succeeded. Are you talking about the Queen of England?

That would be an interesting discussion: who has less relevance to people like me, God or the Queen of England?

I would object in strong terms on principle. If I had kids of my own and someone was trying to drill that into them, my objection might become aggressive.

I do not want god stuff on the money or anything that can be seen as representative of the population. If people want to use gods they should go off on their own and do what they feel they must, but there is no reason people like me should be dragged into it and have our beliefs crapped on.

I spoke with God this morning.... he says your not going to be paid from the sportsbooks now that you made fun of him....... You guys are in trouble now.
