For the past 8 days I have worked till dark and yesterday I worked 12 hours in the rain to complete Newberry's first ever RC track. Today the fruits of that labor were repaid by having 50 plus people show up to have a day filled with fun.

Now 50 plus doesn't sound like much and it certainly isn't enough support to convince the city to get behind my lil crusade with their dollars but those 50 plus people got there by only talking to 5 or so random people the past couple of days. I wasn't gonna make a big announcement till after we have the Water Management annual inspection this week to see if they say I have to take the track down to promote it. If and when the officials ok what I've done then I planned on getting the word out there. However those that were there today are seriously and they want it so fingers crossed they tell their friends and their friends pass it on and even if the district shuts me down where I have it now the city will feel the pressure to do it somewhere else anyways.

What this all means though is approved or not I have much work yet to do either building a new track elsewhere or expanding on the RC Park where it currently is. What that means is I no longer have time to play golf nor money to do anything else with. At least until I see to it we have a fully functioning fully supported park where fathers and sons, mothers and sons, sons and daughters from 8 to 80 have a place to gather and drive their RC cars or fly their RC planes and copters in their home community. A place where the disabled and handicap can come and enjoy competition or just gather and have fun. Newberry will be the place to be for surface and air RC.

I (you know me well enough to know this means I am having someone with skills do it) am working on a FaceBook and a website now. I will post a few pics as soon as I remember to take some or get a hold of all the pics that were taken today BY THE PRESS, ok local press BUT PRESS!

Hey Teela, there's different degrees of manchild.

that is awesome Wally.

it does seem like alot of fun.

I've been flying some of my good bud's helicopters lately.

I do regret you saying goodbye for now to golf, as this will be my first full Chicago Golf Season playing. I've been practicing 4-5 times a week for the past few weeks.

I will need your advice

It's not much but it's something. Not a bad first attempt considering I have only ever been to one track once.

We had some real RC racers come out today to show support and in talking to them I learned I actually kind of built a more 1/8 scale track rather than a 1/10 scale track. So the next step will be to build a smaller 1/10 scale track and to build it more technical with a high degree of difficulty that true racers will appreciate yet do it in a way that the average guys can still enjoy.

McBall's down south the racing is huge. Up in this area it's out there but in smaller numbers. Hoping to change that just a bit.

Arch, keep playing. If you ever stop hiding and actually meet a member we'll play a round of golf. I won't need much knocking the rust off to spot you a few strokes.

Yeah I enjoyed those robot battles for a time but it was kind of like the show Wipeout for me. The interest ran out quickly.

I was actually asking a question back there. Does the RC here stand for remote control?

Reality Check?

Roman Catholic?

Russell Crowe?

RayRay, I am building a park essentially. A park for flyers, racers and general bashers to get together for competitions, stop by on their lunch hour or just get in some practice after work or on weekends.

Building these tracks are labor intensive especially when you are enthusiastic and (believe it or not) detail oriented as I am. Plus until the city is fully on board this is all volunteer efforts and out of Wal's pocket expenses so there is little time or money for golf right now.

Obviously at some point I will be back on the links but it'll probably be a few months down the road. If you think I have issues with this you should have known me when I was coaching.

Muddy, naturally RC stands for Radio Control. It's both a hobby for some and a passion for others. Some of these guys race on highly competitive levels with full sponsorships and even financial support or salaries. Some are just guys with toys. Then there are some who simply have found a way to spend time with their kids other than coaching (few fathers make good coaches) or being the old guy trying to be hip (which rarely is ever hip and generally always causes the kid to have grief) or even entire families coming out to fly, bash or race.

Muddy you have talent and you can give the world music. I got a dream and a shovel, we work with what we got Muddy.

I wasn't counter-knocking, I was just reminding you I have placed a request for a reserved signed copy of you musical masterpiece and I'm kind of hoping it's close to being complete.

Plus I wasn't sure if you truly weren't certain that RC stood for radio control but I was pretty much 100% sure you didn't think I was giving up golf for Russel Crowe. He smokes and I don't plan on going gay but if I do go gay I'm not going gay for a smoker.

I like that last sentence wally. If the city approves get an exclusive license for a food truck like mister monkey says. Start raking in the money while doing your social part and hobby. Easily can get a mexican to make and serve the food for cheap.

Wally, it takes time! City getting off easy IMO! Even though in early stages you need to put up some kind of sign at location that reads "Wally's World*." People won't know it's you but will get the people on the street talking bout it to come .......

"Hey, let's go to that RC place. you know the track ?????" OK
"Hey, let's go to Wally's World." Excellent

Remember Wally, the key to everything you are accomplishing here is maintaining perspective!

*It's only right, you deserve this!
