The Canadian coverage is not bad IMO. My biggest complaint so far is that it isn't Canada-focused enough.

I wasn't kidding. I got up this morning and had a coffee and watched the TV coverage. I figured, okay, still nothing much going on yet. I'll have to keep waiting for something to get excited about.

Then I got in my car. In about 30 seconds of radio, I learned more about important upcoming stuff for Canada than I have gotten from the TV all weekend. There is some big stuff going on today for Canada with strong medal possibilities. We have a strong contender in the women's cycling race going on RIGHT NOW!

I had no idea from the TV coverage.

Those stiffs need to get their shit together.

I seriously can't watch the girls gymnastics without feeling like I am looking at child abuse victims and hoping someone will burst in and rescue them.

Nice post bringing back fond memories of the Olympics! That Russian looked a fat dude but was unbeatable! Wasn't Kip K the guy that disappointed Jim Ryas attempt to become the greatest miler of all-time? Ryan got spiked or something? Remember Stevenson when later in life back in Cuba he got severly burned in some domestic accident?

Haven't watched one minute of the O this time around! Biggest events for me was like the 100 meter dash, the mile, some swimming and of course b-ball! Probably a few others but not ringing a bell presently!

I think Dafty said something but not into soccer at all! Feel the same way bout the new sports like tennis also! Not into it and believe most players aren't either for those sports! Is there Olympic baseball! Seems like some of these new team events every country can't really participate (though the chance of winning slim) No Olympic feel to me!

Not positive but I think baseball as an Olympic event came and went. Same with softball.

Tried and cancelled (I'm pretty sure).

Canada is fortunate that we are pretty good at a lot of the newer events that keep getting added. Trampoline, synchronized diving.

And of course Curling in the Winter Olympics!!!!!

I guess that is supposed to seem like she is being sexualized? I have heard people make that comment repeatedly over the years, comparing gymnastics to those kiddie beauty pageants or whatever.

I don't see it at all. I look at that and all I think is, "Ewww, get it away from me!"

Maybe I am in the minority. Not that I am accusing people who make the comparison of all being pedophiles - I'm not - but I don't see anything sexual about that on any level, like even analytically/theoretically. I just see a girl doing a dumb sport in a uniform that makes sense for it.

She actually looks less abused than a lot of them. It does not appear that her growth and development has been unnaturally stunted to the extent it has for some.

Still though - ewwww.

gymnastics coverage sucks. They can't even show the standings. After 2 hours of watching I didn't even know if Russia had a team anymore. Apparently they were 2nd.
Yeah, so far I want more handball and less everything else.

I don't even know what you are talking about now. You lost me. The nude girl there though is definitely low on my turn-on meter.

It's like when they do Girls of the Olympics edition of Playboy or whatever (which maybe is what that is?). Big shoulders and not much softness or femininity. Way off target for me.





I remember this one Russian woman gymnast from the early 70's. She could pull it off. Womanly, feminine. You never see competitors that look like her any more. She was very good though and won a bunch of medals as a teammate of Olga Korbut.

After I'm done typing this I'm going to see if I can find a pic of her. I wonder to what extent my memory is playing tricks. I think her name was something like Ludmilla Torascheva.
