Encyclopaedia Britannica Inc. said Tuesday that it will stop publishing print editions of its flagship encyclopedia for the first time since the sets were originally published more than 200 years ago.

this is sad news for me

the loss of tangible goods makes me sad

there is something cool to me about displaying books that I have read, cookbooks, records, and other things

now i am a big fan of the internet, paperless age, but to an extent.

both methods could/should co-exist.

it is like the loss of the past which we should hold dear.

I never liked the idea of the kindle. The whole idea of reading a book is to keep turning the pages until you read it all and smell the old paper and ink. This is what I do at night when I can't sleep. Some things were meant to be printed on paper. Not everything should become digital.

I agree completely....
Rog the trees would be fine..they can use recycled paper and plant new trees.
Not that it may ever happen...but everydamn thing were to go paperless...what if...IF
The worldwideweb crashed....then what!

Sad but true:
Humans would panic....depend on the www for too much...
Bey hey...who needs to think for themselves....
Hah

You think?
Id imagine at least half if not more of the worlds population (not including third world countries) do use it...
Especially here in the states...
I mean between pcs, ds, psp, ps3, xbox, so on and so forth...

I like words with friends...love scrabble...but can't play it with someone who lives over 300 miles away...
Also...words with friends is much more fun when it gets dirty.
Also apperently "Slut" is not a "proper" words for that game.
WTG??

E-books should replace paper and anyone who doesnt agree should be left in the dust. Onward and upward motherfuckers.

I can't wait for the day that instant brain beaming replaces movies, tv, and even books. One second you are queing up the entire works of Shakespear, the next *BANG* you can recite it word for word as if you had read it 1000 times.

As for words vs. Scrabble I agree it is an inferior product, challenges and putting down wrong words is an integral and interesting part of the game. Should true Scrabble go electronic (it prolly has) i'm all for it.

Crazy old heads.

I own several hundred books. I'm sort of attached to them but they're a pain in the ass to move. One day I'll give 'em all away on a whim. I like ebooks just fine.

Actually I rarely if ever read (e)books anymore. Longest reads are the weekly feature stories in The New Yorker.

got an author to inscribe a book for me today.... I'm not one for autographs...but it was really cool anyways

this was kinda random though, heard the guy speaking at an engagement and realized I owned a book of his from the 70's and it was in the trunk of the car I drove today, haven't taken it out from before I got married.

so I went and got it and had him sign it, it wasn't very widely distributed so he was pretty pumped to see someone with an original copy...

cute old man in his 80's

can kindle do that shit?
