Agreed tully. This shit happens all the time and is not punished. Orpiks just fell weird.

These high-speed hits near the boards are another matter. I dunno that that hit on Schenn is suspension-worthy, but goddamn that was painful to watch.

These hits near the boards are a partial result of your D partner not being able to run interference anymore on the forwars and forwards coming in at high speeds. Plus the new equipment causes more injuries than it prevents.
 
yeah, hard to believe a person that can skate at all would not be able to avoid hitting the player. He may not have gone out of his way to knee him but he certainly did not try to avoid him. Similar imo to what happened when was it Neal(?) who cut the Ottawa player last year.
It's like showing no respect for the other player. The thinking is: if I'm in the area and can hurt the other person without it looking too deliberate I will.
 
The Neal hit was dirty, I don't blame him, Marchand is a punk and deserves anything he gets.

But that hit was part of the reason Thornton snapped.

I can see Orpik not wanting to fight Thornton, and injure himself, with the current state of Penguins defense. But Hamilton challenge Orpik and passed, that's not acceptable in my mind.

Anyways, I don't think it was deliberate and targeted. Maybe he could have moved, but Marchand is such a dirty weasely fucker that Neal probably said fuck you ya dirty cunt. It's payback time.

Elbow pads are made out of Kevlar, factor in the size and speed of the players, and I am surprised more players don't get hurt.

They've had this problem on their hands for years. I remember in 1987 me and my best bud went to the sports store for new shoulder pads for him. He bought a pair of pads that were like football shoulder pads. He wore them for 1 game and then returned them.

The game has changed. Look at composite sticks. I've never used one and don't want to. The shots are harder and faster coming off the sticks. I swear the NHL should outlaw them. No wonder goalies wore bigger equipment. They are facing shots over 100 MPH on a reg basis. Fuck did you know that 5 - 10 players played with prototype skates that had heated blades 2 -3 seasons ago? The heated blades were to help th eplayers skate and glide faster. Unreal!!!!
