Those inspiron 6000s were absolute beasts. My mom had one for 5-6 years and I currently have one in my apartment that my cousin gave me to sell. Heavy, but extremely durable. congrats on the new purchase.

Thanks boner. The computer salesman said Dell doesn't make their economy computers as durable as before. I really did not spend much time trying to decide what I wanted. This one was on sale for $599 ($750 regularly) and they sold me another 15'' Toshiba that the box was used as display for $200. ($450 regularly)

Bump for FW..

Had the HP i5 for about a year now and have been very happy with the performance. Beats audio is great, 17" screen is sharp. Been very happy with the performance. MF'er has the i7 I believe and might be in the price range you are looking for. I switched from Dell to HP and have not had any regrets yet. Longevity will be the big question, but so far so good.

Thanks. I see those at SAMs Club. I know a couple who had HP and didn't have good luck.
