Spent much of the past 2 days YouTubing police brutality videos. Some of what is shown is in fact police brutality, some shows potential brutality but video starts late and you don’t see what led up to the aggressive behavior and others show very skewed perspective of what appears to be aggressive tactics but not actual brutality.

In many instances the person being stopped or questioned took on a strong defiant approach to meet or exceed the cops authoritative approach. The constitution was thrown at the cops a lot, sometimes accurately but many times a self-serving misinterpretation was used. Still other times you could see where the person being detained or questioned was simply trying to goad the cop into becoming aggressive.

I always wanted to be a cop (more so a lawyer) so I tend to lean more sympathetically to how they are represented. By the same token though a cop should be held to a higher standard and when they cross the line should receive a hasher punishment.

Last year in Miami, day before Christmas. My brother didn't have his car, he works in an office in an indsutrial-ish type area. By 6:30 it's pretty empty. He was working late, it was around 7:30. I park on the side and walk around the building towards the front entrance, I see a cop car with the lights on come rushing on the street from afar, I just kept walking to the entrance, the car pulls up screeching tire and all to the front entrance area, cop comes out with the gun out and pointing it at me already and screaming, without even a chance for me to say anything or act. No witness, no cameras.

Wrong place, wrong time.

I'd be willing to bet they got a business alarm at the location you were at.

Those industrial parks get burglarized all the time.

But I feel bad for you, Juror. Cops always have to plan for the worst and that often leads to over the top behavior.

:(

See this is where I'm torn though.

For the sake of argument let's assume there was an alarm in that area or some call for suspicious persons or whatever. Now it was you (and this time you weren't holding a recently removed kidney in an ice chest) but it could have easily been someone with a gun. Does the cop ease up and act all cool about it and the bad guy get the drop on him or does he protect himself until he gets to the bottom of things?

Hard to say RJ, I've never fit the script of a potential perp. I mean I feel bad for you cause it probably initially scared you and later angered you but how do you handle that situation? Did the guy explain that there was a call or something to that effect after he found out you were clean? I'm not intentionally defending the cop just not real sure how to handle it and protect oneself at the same time any differently.

Nah, didn't even get mad.

Just followed his instructions.

Didn't scared me a bit. I love action wally, I'm shunning it away from my life now but can handle anything, I'm a snakehead.

Funny you say "fitting the script" because I had knocked on the window where I know my brother's office is at when I was coming around, that was always my signal to him that I was out there when I visited or picked him up. So he came out right as the cop was close to me and that was when the cop ease up. But if you see my brother you wouldn't believe he was my brother and he's brother by blood, he's white, good looking, dresses formidable, good smile, has a very "italian" look. I call him "el argentino". In business attire of course the police changed his tune right away.

An alarm had gone off but he was far from the building where it was, my brother was the the one that gave him instructions of where it was.

I know the pin code. :)

The police are in my subdivision for the last 2 hrs. We are on lockdown. There are helicopters hovering above. Swat teams and the whole nine yards. They tried to arrest a kid that had 3 warrants and he escaped in the woods and are now doing house to house search. I have my glock holstered on my hip.
