I obviously live in a bubble and Im gonna use this thread to voice how living in my bubble is making me ignorant to whats going on out there.

Open Carry

I was randomly watching YouTube videos and I stumbled across one about open carry which I assumed was about some open container issue with cops or something. Turns out it was about open carry for firearms which is actually legal in some states like New Mexico, Alabama and apparently like 15 other states.

We are a nation of people with the right to bear arms and personally I have no real problem with that but it would seem that openly carrying firearms would intimidate and make fearful normal everyday honest people and serve as a threat or challenge even to those that walk on the defiant side of things.

Ill admit I have been contemplating obtaining a concealed weapons permit but more for the novelty of having one than anything else. I dont currently have a gun of any kind and while I dont see myself ever actually carrying one or needing one having one on hand in the vehicle isnt entirely a bad thing. However I cant imagine the need to walk into Walmart strapped.

What about law enforcement? In many situations cops are already up against it and more and more people are becoming more and more openly defiant under the guise of civil liberties and constitutional rights, can you imagine cops trying to break-up situations where hordes of people are armed? We are a nation of idiots after all.

yeah you cannot have guns in Chicago. The normal everyday honest people have no reason to be fearful in my neighborhood right?

Wal, you should drive up to a golf tourney and poker near Pittsburgh and hang with InTheHole for a weekend he'll tutor you and shoot your bubble wide open. He can also take you to quaker steak and lube and introduce you to my family on the lake.

Wal, imagine if you had a gun in the restaurant parking lot on your lunch break, when that guy in the pick up said "what are you looking at fat-boy"

Wally the people who carry legal concealed weapons or open carry are law abiding citizens. I feel much safer when they are around me at the restaurants, public places etc. The ones I'm afraid off are the criminals who carry illegal weapons and will shoot you without being able to defend yourself.

When was the last time you saw on the news that a gun fight erupted between two citizens carrying legal concealed weapons? It's always the criminals that use unlawful weapons to kill innocent and not the other way.

I seriously hate everything political. The media makes it impossible to get educated on the agendas and even through internet researches it seems you only get partial half-truths or completely biased slants on them.

Lies, denials, cover-ups, half-truths, biased opinions and objectivity neglected reporting makes it very aggravating to be informed. I don’t doubt that it any different now than it has been in the past but the older I get the more I try to get involved but am realizing that it’s all bullshit.

I'm with Monkey on this one. Get more guns in the hands of people that aren't gang bangers and are trained in safety and generally obey the law enough to pass all the clearances needed. And after a few years I bet we'd see a reduction in crime among White Trash and hood rats. There might be an initial spike in crime maybe, and there would be some aberrations and unnecessary shootings caused by those with guns legally. But after awhile I think it would be a good thing to have a higher % of guns in people like MF's hands.

How long did it take you to get through the red tape Monkey, to getting a license? would they have cared if they knew you used alot of coke?

Yeah. If you're a habitual substance abuser, you could face losing your permit. You have to take a class first and pass a background check. Here are the reasons for denial or revokation:

1. Currently has a warrant outstanding for his arrest.
2. Has ever been declared by a Judge to be either incompetent or insane.
3. Within the past five years has been admitted to a mental health facility.
4. Within the past five years has been a habitual user of alcohol or controlled substances, or been convicted of driving under the influence (DUI), or been committed to a rehabilitation program for alcohol or controlled substances.
5. Within the past three years has been convicted in any state of a misdemeanor of a violent nature, or involving force, or threatened use of force.
6. Has been convicted of a felony in any state.
7. Has been convicted of a crime involving violence or stalking, or under a restraining order for domestic violence.
8. Is on parole or probation.
9. Within the past five years has been a subject of a court requirement imposed as a condition of withholding a judgment of conviction of a felony, or suspension of a sentence for conviction of a felony.
10. Has made a false statement on an application for a concealed weapon permit.

that's why we are here for you wally :console:

I can understand the reasoning and logic behind overall reduced crime at some point down the line if everyone was armed. I guess it's just the thought of some of these idiots with hair trigger tempers blasting away over some stupid shit that makes me concerned. I also guess it's the not actually seeing the weapon even around situations where you assume someone is carrying that gives someone like me a false sense of safety.

Wal, I guess its a perspective thing

where I live, from my perspective I see the news every night and 4-5 people are shot, more on weekends. And guns are illegal across the board here. and not all of those people shot are just gang banging nigs, sometimes its innocent kids jumping rope, or people in a mugginggone wrong.

so to me "those idiots" are already armed to the max

and maybe after a few of those idiots got shot but a good samaritan with a legal firearm, word would start to circulate, that you better only get your gat at, on the block after dark, around the other trash....
