And Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting the 2018 Oscars. 2 Oscars in a row for Kimmel.

That's a bit surprising to me. I thought he was fine last time but not remarkable enough to bypass all the others "in the rotation." Ellen and Chris Rock and whatnot.

I remember some people trying to blame him for the Best Picture snafu with Moonlight/La La Land. That was ridiculous. So I guess that line of thinking never got any traction.

Flipping through stations last night, we came across a movie where a stalker of a women was secretly hiding under her bed and in the house all the time! I'm serious and it wasn't some comedy type thing either! Was glued to it for awhile at least 3-4 days would go by and no sign of her realizing it!

Had to switch it off when she must have picked up her scared little dog from the vet and then the dog would go off with some short barking without her having any thinking something is wrong! I figured the stalker would end doing in the dog and don't want to end the day with that thought!

I watched an episode of the rebooted Twin Peaks.

I thought I was watching episode 1 but in retrospect, I have no idea.

It was kind of okay. It is infused with surrealism. I have a place in my heart for surrealism no doubt. David Lynch is not the greatest purveyor of that for me, but he has his moments.

But if you don't even know if you are watching episode 1 or wut, there is a problem with the story-telling.



. . . on investigating, I believe I watched episode 2.

That is a rather ginormous coincidence. I just started watching it last night. I have seen it before but it has been a long time.

It won Best Picture for 1969. So there's that. FWIW.

I am about 60% through it (and I know how it's going to end) and IMO: it's good. No doubt it was super-edgy in its time. In fact, as the trivia goes, it is the only x-rated movie to win Best Picture. It is not remotely shocking by today's standards but that's a fact.

That was almost 50 years ago. Movies were different back then. It actually does an admirable job of avoiding a lot of the stuff that bothers me about older movies. The heavy-handed devices, obvious techniques and contrivances. It doesn't totally avoid them though.



I'll say it was a great movie for its time, and still a good movie now.
 
A couple of TV series I tried and rejected.



Guerrilla - this stars Idris Elba and is about London in the 1970's during turbulent times. Political activism is a central theme. All I can say is, America has ruined it for me. American politics that I am bombarded with - and the American people who have caused it - are so profoundly dipshitty - so monumentally airheaded - so sure of themselves in their political discourse while actually knowing nothing ---> that now, as soon as I see anyone getting political - I'm out.



The Feud. This is the one with Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange as Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. Guess they had some significant problems with each other but decided to make Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. Sparks flew. Seemed on paper like it might be interesting - I'm a movie buff and they are legends and whatnot - but when the rubber hit the road: I don't have a lot of time for bickery stuff. I probably could have predicted that if I had thought it through. Not a fan of squabbling as a spectator sport.

I watched an episode and a half - declared Bette Davis the winner - and moved on.
 
ah, Thanks. Was trying to remember what led me to it. Took a while.

I was watching a clip from Seinfeld I posted a while ago. It was where Kramer and Jerry are on a bus and Kramer has a bloody nose and saying he's falling apart etc... It struck me as a very good unusual scene. I guess it might of been based on something from Midnight Cowboy, because youtube suggestions led there. ...So I looked up to see what year that was and saw those cool pics of Dustin Hoffman and John Voight.

X rated ha? fascinating. I thought that was for porn. There were actually mainstream movies rated X?
