A woman claiming to be the "mother" of a young monkey found wandering at an Ikea store in North York Sunday says the primate can't survive without her and she's pleading for it to be returned to her.

"Keeping us away is destroying both of us," real estate agent Yasmin Nakhuda told CityNews.

The monkey, named Darwin, has been sent to a sanctuary near Sunderland, Ont., about 100 kilometres northeast of Toronto after it was seized by Animal Services. It's illegal to keep a monkey as a pet in Toronto.

You're about 12 hours late, you pathetic excuse for a poster.

Plommer try to be more like MrQ.

Matty, This is the only thread I've seen dedicated to the topic of the monkey pal.

You guys have only mentioned the monkey in passing.

Plommer doesn't get up before noon so he's only 6 hours late but yeah he definitely ain't first to press.

Wal, I got up at 1pm today to take a piss and went back to bed. When I woke up (5:45pm) it was dark outside.

Apparently the woman who illegally owned Darwin has got some Casperwaits in her and wants to be a major victim in this. She is feeling very persecuted and claimed she was being denied visitation. I saw an interview with the woman who runs the sanctuary and she is saying that the owner can visit Darwin but she is being asked to wait so Darwin can have some time to get acclimated to his new surroundings. Given that Darwin is not going back to Casper-woman - because of the law - it seems reasonable to me. Think about the monkey instead of yourself for a second.

Seems like the former owner just expects the law to be changed on-the-spot because of her personal tragic victimhood.

Had an uncle who had a pet monkey when I was a kid. Can't remember what kind it was but looked similar to the one in the picture provided here. It was funny to watch but they can be nasty mean lil bastards.

He and my mom had a sibling rivalry that undoubtedly carried over into adulthood cause he named the monkey after my mom.

Never understood how my uncle came about having a monkey cause he never had a dime to his name so I'm guessing he didn't obtain it legally.

Yes monkeys do grow up and can become strong and nasty and sexually aggressive. And they can figure out how to get out of cars and shit. I'm sure that is why there is a law against having them as pets. I'm sure there was a body of experience and incidents, and it was not just something decided on a whim.

But let this woman keep her monkey. We need to have separate laws for each individual.
