Haven't collected employment insurance in a long time.

I filed a claim in Ontario for benefits about 6 weeks ago - today I got a phone call from Service Canada, they needed some additional information. Apparently I was 0.5 hours short of the required hours to be eligible for a claim.

It turns out the number the agent told me was incorrect and my hours worked are 4 hours over the required amount!

Looks like my claim for benefits will be approved!

$468 a week (the MAX!) for watching sports on TV all winter!

I'll go back to work when the weather is nicer.

Thanks kato! Not sure if "deserve" is the right word - I work to live and leisure time is important to me.

I paid in to the program for years and never collected and I now have no problem taking what they are giving.

The move back to Ontario helped as the unemployment rate here is higher than Sask and it's likely I wouldn't have qualified if I was still on the prairies.

Perhaps you need more money than I do, since you have kids and a house I'd say thats the case.

I'm a middle aged gambler that has no responsibilities (children, house etc.) or debt (well, only a little debt) and I'd rather sleep in on cold winter days than get up and face the daily grind of working.

I was working 12-15 hours a day for months at a time in Estevan, I can appreciate the rest and relaxation.

I'll drink, gamble, and frequent massage parlours all winter while in Toronto. Will go back to Sask after spring thaw.

If you are single this is not bad money. When you have kids and wife money is always short.
