Was looking at UConn-Louisville matchup last night and was thinking Cards -4.5 would get job done at home! Record 14-2 at home and UConn 2-4 on road! More rested team of late and Huskies winning last game easily (No Pope for Seton Hall) might not continue! UConn more talented team but not nearly as reliable or consistent as Louisville!
But looking over today really liking UConn +4! Louisville's big man Gorgui Dieng sprained ankle on Sat and is listed as doubtful! Heard him speak and say he will go but listening to Coach Pitino sounds like if he does he will be not nearly 100%! Dieng represents 10 in both PPG and rebounds! Also accounts for 70% of their blocked shots!
Cards already thin on bench with season being one of losing bench players who contributed valuable minutes! Use 3 guard offense already so only big men to replace Dieng accordingly to Pitino are Swopshire (13 MPG) and some frosh named Price who has played 50 minutes all year!
UConn has lots of frontcourt players which could be difficult for Louisville to handle even with Dieng! Problem for UConn though is too big on defense so they probably will counter with 3 guard starting lineup consisting of Lamb, Napier, and frosh Boatwright! Lamb can be great but so inconsistent this year! Napier only 1-24 in last FGA!
Looks like a good matchup of Cards 4 guards vs Huskies 3! Kuric vs Lamb while C. Smith, R Smith and Silva match up against Napier and Boatwright! Louisville will probably full court press like always so 3 guards should help the Huskies! Against Louisville's halfcourt zone though if UConn isn't making some 3's then that could spell trouble! They should get open looks which have to be knocked down!
So possibly it might come down to whether UConn takes advantage of inside game on offense or Cards shoot well from the outside when the Huskies go big defensively! Like i said was thinking Louisville at home against an up and down team but now seeing good chance UConn will cover if not win outright! IMO if both teams perform well see a slight edge going to the Huskies!
