The Maple Leafs have traded defenceman Luke Schenn to Philly for forward James van Riemsdyk.

Van Riemsdyk had 11 goals and 13 assists in 43 games for the Flyers last season when he missed time with a broken left foot.
Schenn, meanwhile, scored twice and had 20 assists in 79 games with Toronto.

The deal unites Schenn with his brother Brayden, who is a centre with Philadelphia.

Last September, the Leafs signed Schenn, their first-round pick in 2008, to a five-year contract worth $18 million with an annual cap hit of about $3.5 million.

Leafs also shipped goalie Jonas Gustavsson to Winnipeg.

I wish Brian Burke would stop acquiring American players, the Leafs need more homegrown talent, not fukks from New Jersey!

common.

I wasn't a fan of Schenn, he seemed to always be on the ice when a shit goal was scored on the Leafs but too many of Burkes moves involve foreign guys, Toronto needs more local players, the GTA produces more NHL players than anywhere else.

Lets get some playing for the Leafs.

this was a real old fashioned hockey trade. You never see these types of trades anymore.

JVR has health issues and is a big yet softer type of player. He has 30+ goal potential if he stays healthy and consistent.

Schenn will finally break out as a shutdown banger dman in Philly. I would day it's a fair trade for both, but right now I'll give Philly the edge.
