I skipped school to watch it and root for the Americans. I didn't yet know what yahoos Americans were.

Because at that time I thought they were cool. They would come out with that Gary Glitter song blasting. They were undefeated so at the time I didn't even feel it was very unlikely they could win. Plus we were planning on moving to America by then.
Eh, I was a dumb kid. Didnt realize it was a gonna be some symbolic triumph of evil for the next 100 years.
