I believe people do truly believe in a higher power and in doing so it enables them to accomplish things others might doubt. I don't actually think it's something tangible but just the overwhelming conviction elevates them to something a little extra. I have no problem with giving credit to something spiritual, I don't even have a problem with them honestly believing in it. I believed in Santa Clause till I was 6 and even though I don't actually remember if it's true or not I like to think I was probably happier when I believed.
