like in the movies, some kidnapper kidnaps some rich guy's wife and calls for a ransom. in the movies, the kidnapper usually says something like, "if you call the authority, we'll kill the hostage". let's say the person doesn't like his gold-digger wife in the first place, so he called the cops. and the cops botched the hostage rescue and the hostage ended up dead. then the wife's sues for murder because they have suspicion that the person wanted her to die in the hostage rescue and called the cops intentionally.

question is, can that person be charged with murder if he called the calls? or have to pay the wife's family money in a civil suit for calling the cops rather than just pay the kidnapper ransom money?

Well I have seen many episodes of Law and Order - so I'm a bit of an expert here - and Ima gonna say no.

If the cops botch the rescue mission is called collateral damage or killed by friendly fire..I think.
