I paid in cash about the amount of a deductible for the entire bill last time I went to the ER...

Been to a doctor three times in about the last nine years.

Insurance profits. It's very unlikely that you come out ahead.

Health insurance is undoubtedly a monster scam but as I head into the 2nd half of my life I'm seeing trips to the doctor/hospital/ prescriptions becoming more frequent.

I'm not sure I would be able to handle those future costs without insurance
