If you were gifted startup capitol for any business you wanted to open what would it be?

No fast food franchises please, no casinos, nothing outrageous. Something you have the skills to do yourself.

Ive always wanted to start my own business but its come down to A) not having the start up capitol and B) not having the required knowhow for ideas that i feel might be profitable.

Ideas that come to mind that i feel i can do are
1) computer repair- over saturated field. Lots of competition. Outcalls require high liability insurance. The field is slowly dying, people under 30 with half a brain know how to rid viruses and speed up their computers. Thats the bulk of the business demographic.

2) moving/storage business
3) lanscapping business.
4) gutter and chimney sweeping
5) commercial property real estate investing/apartment complexes.

Food. Something people will always need and if its good enough u will separate yourself from the crowd...

I have recently been considering a couple things:

1) Bamboo farming.
2) Legal Support temp-attorney company (the industry I work in now).

I think if I wasn't in need of much money and was looking to simplify my life I would just start a good old fashioned convenience/general store.

Escort business catering to sports gambling forum clients.

Electric guitar shop. Buncha CNC machines, someone to source top-notch wood & some CAD artist.

Manipulating, scamming, and hustling.

wine bar/book store in a funky area of the city

coffee and light food served as well in the day, plus really good sipping booze

no kids allowed other than my son, locked in a closet if i can't find a sitter that night

two copies of each book on the shelf - not really fiction books - more architecture, graphic design, fashion, history, biographies, all non fiction etc... so you can sit there and read for as long as you like and butcher it if you want, as long as you keep ordering drinks

the kind of books that are usually too hard to skim through in a normal store or are sealed up so you have to buy them before you look

when someone wants to purchase one, they get a fresh copy from behind the shelf/storeroom and it's nicely wrapped

almost did this a few years ago when i was having a mini life crisis. we had the place picked out, had met with the realtor and agreed on rent and tenancy conditions, but the guy i was going to do it with ended up getting engaged to this chick who said the block number was bad and had a few other vietnamese superstitions that apparently were wrong with the place.

hoor. we probably would've went busto anyway but i still blame her numerology bullshit for not letting us at least try

Fusion restaurant.

Also have a few ideas on how to reinvent the Jolly Rancher.

Why the fok would you exclude fiction? :monster:

A diner, actually thinking of writing a business plan for one.

a bar, but it's normally best if you start out working for a company. Then in your free time you start doing the activity with friends/family. Soon transition it to them paying for it or let them spread out what you can do with word of mouth. Once you have the demand MAYBE consider a commercial location and get a loan on it with your idea.

clothing store/music shop

It's easy to skim from bars to freefall

you have to have liability insurance for every type of biz I believe, along with workers comp...
look up the workers comp rates for some of those and you might change your mind.
I pay 12% of everything I pay out towards WC. thats with me excluded, if I was included I would have to pay 12% on everything I made as well on top of taxes and all the other shit.
roofers here pay upwards of 50% for WC, thats why theres only 2 companies that have WC here.

my liabilty is about $1000 a yr for 1 million coverage

Gambling syndicate.

because i don't want people coming in to read the latest harry potter or harlequin romance

i want people who are the type to blow $70+ on a coffee table book so they have no qualms spending $12 on a glass of wine

(those are not uncommon price points here as everything is jacked up)
