Have you been happy when someone died?

I'm talking about in real life. It is not unusual for me to feel happy when some fictional villain from books/TV/movies gets his ultimate come-uppance, but I can't remember ever being happy that a real person died.

I don't know what's up with that. I'm not some bleeding heart, all-life-is-precious kinda guy. Maybe I am just forgetting and someone will say something that will trigger some happy-about-death memories for me.

But I don't know. I think of death that has touched me. Personal acquaintances, figures from the worlds of the news, sports, entertainment. I can't think of any death that made me happy.

I'm not talking about historical stuff. No doubt there are many psychos and asswipes who ended up dead and it's good. But I'm talking more about getting the news that someone has just died and feeling happy. I can't remember it happening.



Closest I ever had was when my grandmother died. Not that she was a bad person but she had been deteriorating for so long with Alzheimers and then a series of physical injuries - it was a relief when she died.

But other than that, I got nothing.
 
I can think of theoretical happy-about-death situations.

If Canada brought back the death penalty and executed Paul Bernardo, I'm pretty sure I would feel happy about that.

If George W. Bush had died during his presidency (after it had been established what he was about) I probably would have been happy. If he died now though, I doubt I would be happy.
 
sure i have been happy to see some murderers/rapist etc dead...some people simply dont deserve to breath our air anymore... and yes, i can see someone shedding a tear in happiness over the death of someone who has been in longterm pain for a while(when the time comes, you know they are much happier than being in all that pain)

but i agree, i dont think ive ever just been happy to hear of anyones death...that being said, i cant believe how the death of celebs and high profile people seem to have on certain fans...i do remember chuckling a bit when i saw all the people crying and falling out in tears all over the place when they heard micheal jackson died...i mean fucking really? black people really deal with death in an attention whore manner for sure...falling down, kicking , screaming...all over someone they never knew...like i said, i chuckled...

ironic the timing of a death thread for me...my uncle has less than 2 weeks to live (what the hospice lady told us yest.) unable to get fluid off his heart and he is close to heart failure and/or organ shutdown...could be today, tomorrow or a few weeks tops, but its happening... so im taking my dad to visit him this week...most likely he will die after he and my dad get to spend a few days together...we think thats as long as he wants to hold on... just part of life

Why? 'Cause you want to spare him the agony and misery of being locked in a cell all alone?
He is suffering, death would put an end to that.
 
It all depends. If he actually wanted to die, his death would not make me happy.

I was assuming he would prefer life in his current circumstances over death. It seems like most people in that situation do; murderers routinely fight being put to death.

I could see a guy like that getting pleasure indefinitely reliving his experiences in his mind. Just kill him.
 
Just today, my sister called me tell me that someone I had grown up with was going to die in the next few days from a brain tumor.

I said it was sad that young man would die at 27, then I said that he was douchebag, so oh well.
 
I don't know if I am getting more compassionate as I get older, but I have never been happy to see someone die. When a serial killer gets executed, I am not happy. I am saddened that he committed the crimes in the first place. My thirst for blood has been replaced with a desire to be happy. When you spend a duration of time alone to your own thoughts, it puts life in perspective.

I wondered if Saddam and his sons would come up. I was aware of it when they died but I was not happy. I was more like :dunno:

If all the stuff I heard about them was true, there would be reason to be happy, but there were just so many lies flying around I didn't know what to make of it all. I feel pretty sure it's good that they are dead but there was no YES! moment for me.



I think the reason I don't have more happy-about-death experiences is I just don't follow the news all that closely. I always learn about the good deaths like Dahmer or maybe someone like Milosevic some time after the fact.
 
I don't think I could ever be happy about a person I knew about in real life, dying. unless maybe they were suffering a real long fight with a bad brand of cancer or somthing, and they were more than at peace with everything and ready to go.

I was wondering about if any forum-ville people were happy about the shrink's death. I know he had alot of enemies, but the stuff I read was mostly shock, people saddened, and the incredulous.

there are some real scum bags in the old school early 2000's forum world, I think that might be one or two that were really happy about ken's death
 
I was not happy about Shrink's death. Nor was I particularly sad. He was some guy I had talked to on the internet. Not a friend - just a guy.

I found him to often be two-faced and insincere but not enough to be happy about his death. Lots of two-faced, insincere people out there. I'm sure he had redeeming qualities as well.

People die all the time. He was one of them.




It seemed like some people at Peeps were happy about it.
