How "scammy" is dealing dual lines?

The justification by a book is off-lines are a transfer of wealth from squares to sharps, dual lines makes it a transfer from squares to the book.

A place like BetJam used to just kick sharps out, a place dealing dual lines essentially does the same thing, just keeps it in house. Maybe it counts as in a more sneaky way.

Just wondering what your thoughts are, how "scammy" is dealing dual (or triple or quadruple) lines?

Hey, pally.

Why don't they just deal 40 cent lines to everyone instead and be honest about it? If they didn't feel it was scammy themselves, they could openly admit what they do.

That's my take.

right, I mean they could just be a straight rec book and outright boot sharps

I guess it's more just that they want to only offer line sets that they think they will make money on, so they keep "sharps" around because they think they can still make money off of sharps if they offer sharp line sets?

I'm just trying to figure out where dual lines lies on the scammy spectrum.

Like is it more scammy than just being a rec book that offers t he same line to everyone and boots winners? Yes

Is it less scammy than, like, that book that used to offer NFL halftime lines of -7/+7, but if you tried to bet the -7 it would say the line had moved and you could only bet -7.5? Yes, right? It's less scammy than that, right?

I don't know. I think it's nearly the same if they actually allow you to bet the -7.5. It's may be moderately worse since you think you can bet the -7. It's increased vig either way. Just different means.

Overall, I'd agree with your spectrum analysis of "scammy" sportsbook moves though.

I never had much of an issue with dual lines. Unless they are increasing the juice - (which would be bad but I never had that happen at a dual line book) - if they are making the line worse for me on one side, it must be better on the other.

Sure, if a book has really out of whack lines, say, on the dog side, I would love to have it forever. I would like all books to bend over backwards to make it as easy as possible for me to make money forever.

But I don't expect it.

I see it as a guy who comes into a store, the store owner knows that he likes Reeses Peanut Butter Cups. He charges the customer $1.50 for a pack of them, but only $1.25 for M&M's. Another guy walks into a store and normally buys M&M's. He gets charged $1.50, but the Peanut Butter Cups are only $1.25.

You can say that's fine - if there's competition. He can go elsewhere. But if his options to shop elsewhere are extremely limited, then it becomes a problem.
