This is something I always wonder about. Maybe I have made this thread before.
I almost never really like music the first time I hear it - and I wonder if others are the same.
Like I can hear the music and understand intellectually there are elements I usually like. I can make an educated guess if I will like it someday (although those guesses are not amazingly accurate). But whatever, I don't enjoy that first listen. Or second. Third is starting to feel it a bit if the listens are in close succession. Usually it takes about 4 listens for me to really start feeling it.
When I used to be more of a concert-goer, I hated when a band had a new album I hadn't heard yet - because they were going to play a whole bunch of songs I was not going to enjoy. Even though - more often than not that new album would end up being something I love.
First time I saw Les Miz it was like a chore. But with familiarity it has become a deeply beloved part of my musical being.
The obvious question: are there exceptions? The answer is yes, but the fact that the main example that comes to mind is a David Wilcox show I saw when I was using fake I.D. to get into the bar - i.e. not recent - tells you how rare that is.
Movies and TV - the first viewing is the max experience for me. Music - definitely not.
Just curious if others are the same.
