Distraught about going blind, 45-year-old deaf twin brothers from Belgium chose to be euthanized because they couldn't bear not to see one another, according to reports from Flanders.

Marc and Eddy Verbessem of Putte died Dec. 14 by lethal injection at Brussels University Hospital. Voluntary euthanasia has been legal in Belgium since September 2002.

I saw this the other day. I don't blame them one bit. I don't how I feel about it in regards to children under the age of 18, but hey, if you are physically and/or mentally ill, I say go for it. IMO. I mean yes it's sad for those they leave behind, but I can understand not wanting to live out a miserable life.

I find that opinion piece from The Star (the one from post #4 here) to be poor with weak logic and odd connections. It feels to me like it is written by someone who is crusading against elder abuse - which is not a terrible cause, don't get me wrong - but they're tying it to assisted suicide in a contrived and contorted way hoping to draw more attention to their main position which is IMO only quasi-related at best.

And then they randomly throw in that Liverpool Care Pathway case which, at the time of that writing, was nothing but accusations and speculation. What does that prove? Maybe nothing is going on and it's all hysteria. Maybe it's murder - we have laws for that regardless. Maybe it is actually a very strong supporting case for euthanasia. Who knows at this point?

Seems to me like the piece is just throwing a bunch of spaghetti at the wall.

I just liked the funny picture.
