Foreign residents used to be able to do what they call Direct Consular Filing, where you can file your I-130 app at the embassy where you live. Turn around time here was like 1-2 weeks. Well, homeland security or whoever just announced last week that as of july 31st there will be no more direct consular filing and you have to mail to the USA, where I just checked that they are currently processing applications that arrived last september. I thought, well at least I can still do it, but no the embassy told me they are done now. Doesn't really matter, but we were planning on going for a month at christmas and now can't. My mom will be pissed.
