So I am playing blackjack last night at Ballys and I am 2nd chair with 4 people at the table.

I am playing basic and the other 3 people are playing...um...non basic.

The kid in the first chair at least had the decency to admit he was new to the game and asked for advice from the dealer (who refused to give any).

The guy in the 4th seat (in his mid 40's) kept saying he has been playing for years all the while vacillating on staying on 15 & 16 against a dealer 10.

Anyway, one hand is dealt and suffice to say if the table had played "properly" my 2 aces I split would have ended up two 21 hands and not a 14 and a 17.

At this point, I had lost 7 hands in a row.

Now I know I could have gotten up and left the table if I didn't like the way people were playing. I understand that.

Anyway, I lost my split and hit the table felt (not hard mind you).

The mid 40's guy (after he wins) says "Hey it's only cards". I said to him if it was only cards, I am going to the souvenir shop and buying 20 decks of cards and paying all my bills with them.

He didn't like my sarcasm and said that he had had people with my type of attitude kicked off tables before. I told him to be my guest and make it happen. He got up, colored in his chips and went to another table (not before whining to the pit boss).

My question is, as long as you aren't scaring players around you or cursing or threatening violence, is their anything eying with showing a SMALL amount of emotion when you lose?

The age old question..do you have an obligation to the table? ..tough call. I play basic strategy, but sometimes I forget the "correct" play in certain situations (2 against dealer 3) for example...I have never had a problem with the dealer telling me what the basic play is if I ask.

Maybe you should go to the gift store and buy some of those $1.00 "cheater" cards and hand them out in times like that. lol I won't use those...I just ask the dealer or other players if I have a lapse.

Ultimately it's not a team sport, and I never openly criticize another player's call as I have seen others do...sometimes a bad play will actually save the table...sounds like his "bad" play, worked for him. I totally understand where you are coming from though. I'm guessing this guy was playing the minimum table limit if he's saying "it's just cards."

Did the guy in the 3 seat make the right play in this instance?

IAG, the guy at the 3rd seat played properly. He happened to be betting sporadically (which is a bit unnerving but whatever)

Blitty, by the time I find the thing and pull it out, I would have been dealt 3 more losing hands.

I think I would end up dropping some fbombs while looking at no one on paricular..

Then looking at the offender and make an aggressive biting motion...more aggressive then than the Iceman did in TopGun...

Then I would slam my drink...look forward and say the word... Dickhead...with no emotion...then look at him again and see if he speaks.

No right to bitch about anybody elses play. Nobody elses play effects your expectancy. Although most players deviate from basic strategy due to ignorance etc, there are some who are using advanced techniques beyond your scope of understanding. And they have a right to do so without having to explain themselves to every dumb ass at the table.

Now, to get pissed off and show your emotions is fine, but don't direct it at other players for "playing badly". Strangle the dealer.

I play for myself and not the table. Has anyone ever taken a "hit" (as in losing) for the table and then had players at the table "tip" them for taking the hit for them? I haven't and never even witnessed it.

Never seen that and I have been playing quite a bit of blackjack the last 2 months.

It's a cool sounding concept. Getting the entire table to agree to it and throwing it out there seems like an obstacle.

since usually there is no way to tell if the dealer needs the 1st card or the next to bust, it really doesn't matter how many hits a player takes. That should be obvious.
Apparently many players believe that the deck/shoe is ordered in a certain manner that as long as people take the correct hits, the table will win. It should be easy to see the folly of that idea.

But I understand gamblers have their superstitions or whatever. Whatever makes it fun I guess :dunno:
