well..that comment didnt go over so well with your new gf... :donthinkso:
hahahahahahaha

done it MANY times - steps to take:

1) exfoliate and shave in the morning. do not put any lotion on. and very little makeup.
2) go get sprayed.
2a) put the lotion they give you anywhere you don't want tanning spray, like between your toes (where it can build up), heels of your feet (trust me), palms of hands, etc. really lather it on.
2b) they give you disposable panties - wear it as a thong and low rise (twist it) so you don't get unwanted tan lines. and let your boobies hang, but lift them to get the spray under them.
2c) it will shock you (it's chilly) but let it go. here is the thing:
IT TAKES 3 DAYS FOR THE COLOR TO LOOK NATURAL
So, ask for it to be "regular tan" and you will look totally orange, but 3 days late you'll look amazing. it will fade in the follow 4 days.
OR
go very light if day before an event
OR
go darker if you want it to last through a vacation.
2d) Afterward make sure you dry yourself with the blowdryer thing SUPER WELL. HINT: takes a washcloth/towel and very lightly "feather" it against your skin as your dry (light swipe at the skin) to blend it naturally and even out any splotching from an unever coat. THIS IS KEY TO A NATURAL LOOK.
2E) MAKE SURE YOU ARE TOTALLY DRY before putting on clothes. Make sure you wear super loose clothing like a very loose dress or sweatpants and a big t-shirt
3) Afterward avoid all water for 24 hours. no showering, no dishes, nothing.
4) when you get home look in a mirror. if you notice splotching feather it with a towel asap. if you face looks too dark, rub it harshly to get off extra tanner. you can always use bronzer. actually i always say "go lighter on my face" b/c i'd rather use bronzer than look like and oompa-loompa.
5) check in mirror again in 2 hours, 4 hours, etc. wear loose clothes to bed.
6) shower the next day as usual, but avoid harsh body washes, DO NOT USE EXFOLIANT. But. if there are any dark areas, scrub that shit out. you might also want to use alcohol on a washcloth, or in an extreme case go to Sephora and buy self tanner remover.
7) in 2 or 3 days you can get a pedicure, but tell then not to do anything above the ankle or else you will loose your tan. ALSO, NO POOLS - chlorine will take it off in the first 5 days.

8) ENJOY YOUR SEXY TAN

jaysus Cali, where the fok do you go tanning that it's that complicated?! Place I used to go you stand in the booth, turn a few times, and your done. Wipe a couple places off...it dried quickly on it's own...and it was always even. I'm all for simplicity.

Holy crap Cali! Thank you so much for the info but I think that's a little more than I want to remember on "vacation." And I don't want to have to avoid shower/pool. I think I will save this and try it sometime when I am homebound over winter instead in case all goes wrong. I have friends who have done it and I don't remember it being that complicated, but then again they were not all that happy with the results. Sounds like you have it down to a science. I think I'll just get a massage instead and/or a pedi with cocktail in hand. That sounds more relaxing than having to "feather," lotion and remember all the rules. Next time you do it (probably won't have to in California) do a before/after pic so I can get an idea of what to expect. Thanks!

seems like an aweful lot of BS to go through just to look a little darker.

I'm with Raymond. Just go to a stand up booth every week or so to get some colour if it's that important to you that you need to look tanned...... for whatever reason.

fuck that spray shit in the winter... stands out too much, imo... go spend 8-10min in one of those stand up beds once every few weeks for color...

I don't do tanning in the winter period. It's not natural. I have had a few people tell me during the winter I remind them of snow white, and I am good with that.

I used to spray tan quite a bit. I think I'm part albino. Just make sure that you wipe off any excess when you're done. I discovered that my elbows tend to be a little dry, so I would have crazy dark brown elbows that didn't match the rest of me.

I've never done the booth... i worry it won't be even. I do it where you stand exposed in front of a "tan artist" and they use a little machine to spray a custom tan on you.

i should have mentioned - if you do this - ask them to go darker inside your collar bone, along your stomach, around your butt , etc. to make you look thinner or bigger where you want.

yeah never do spray tan ON vacation. do it 3-4 days BEFORE.

i san fran I will most definitely have to go tanning. It's not sunny or beachy there at all. it's pure city.
