The Derby d'Italia is the bi-annual meeting between Inter Milan and Juventus in Italy's Serie A, first named in 1967 for the meeting of the teams who had the highest number of international honors and national honors respectively. And this derby is one of the more unusual ones since it isn't between teams from the same city but rather long standing rivalry from two successful teams over a long time period. If this was the English Premier League, it would be Liverpool Vs Manchester United, if it was baseball it would be the Yankees up against the Red Sox. Even though the balance of power has shifted more to Milan in recent years, and with Milan challenging for the league title this year while Juventus are struggling to penetrate the top 5, the rivalry is undiminished.

With Friday's game between the pair, it was all about a potential Serie A title for Milan and it was all about pride for Juventus. But sadly for Juventus, they returned to Turin on the wrong side of a 2-0 defeat. However, if there is one positive from the game, they got to see one of the best goals of the season. From a free kick on the right side of the Juventus penalty area the ball made it's way to the Milan defender Maicon who, after a few moves more attributable to a game of hacky sack, struck the ball into the left corner of the goal. For someone who isn't paid to score goals it is even more special.

Maicon is one of my favourite players, as an attacking full-back.
Amazing how how can get so much power on the shot with so little back lift.

It is even more awesome how a defender has such attacking ball skills. That goal was just amazing.
