Fail to Report Accident - Ontario Highway Traffic Act - Section 199,1

As well as stopping after an accident, where the damage in the accident is more than one thousand ($1000) dollars, or when someone is hurt, or there is damage to highway property, the driver or person in charge of the vehicle must report the accident to the police forthwith.

Forthwith means, within a reasonable time having regard to all the circumstances of the case, "as soon as practicable", meaning you must report the accident right away, as soon as you possibly can.

The penalty for Failing to Report an Accident is a fine up to one thousand dollars and three (3) demerit points. A conviction for this offence may dramatically affect insurance rates by thousands of dollars per year.

Some good news. I called the police today at the accident reporting centre. My timing was perfect. I was expecting an answering machine but a live police officer answered the phone and was immediately on the case. He asked me about my family name, and we exchanged pleasantries for about 5 minutes....then... The officer told me that the other vehicle has not yet reported the accident, and if they don't soon, that they will go pay the company or the driver a visit and charge them with failing to report the accident.

It is boding well for me because the police have already phoned them once supposedly...

For the record, in my 43 years....this will be the first time in my life I'm on the right side of the law and for once the police are going to help me and not be looking to bust my punk ass.... :megaman::megaman::megaman::megaman::megaman:

No more news yet. I did however go and get my car from the body shop. I think their estimate was way too high anyway. I am going to put a signal light in the front and tape it up a bit and drive it to my cabin because I have a big renovation planned for my house. While I am up there, hopefully the red tape will be ironed out and i will be in a position to pick up my settlement cheque for the damage. If the people don't fess up soon to the accident the police will end up charging someone with failing to report.

That red auto tape is awesome, it usually holds up really well.
Glad you get to go to your cabin, whatchya doin to it?

Also, what does "body" mean? is that same as "bloody well"? and other such euphemisms/sayings?
