So I posted about this somewhere else, and got an unusual number of responses. Who knew? I have to have one of these things soon.

They stick a camera down your throat into your stomach to see what's going on. It doesn't sound fun. I guess I will be mostly out, but really? Anyone ever do this?

I'm not even sure what they're looking for. I hope it's just an ulcer or something. The hypochondriac in me is worried about stomach cancer, but that appears to be fairly rare.

Oh, and HAPPY THANKGIVING!!!!

Upper endoscopy is incredibly easy because you're fully sedated and there's no prep work.

Lower endoscopy is easy as well BUT the 3 days or so of prep that you have to do BLOWS.

Stop worrying. You don't have cancer.

Have you had one Tron?

When she started talking about taking a little "bites "out of my esophagus and putting a balloon in to stretch it, that sort of freaked me out. As long as I will be fully out....she said this was "conscious sedation "but then later said something about my meds interfering, and that maybe they would put me entirely out. I have woken under sedation before. Not fun.

I've never had stomach issues in my life until the last month or two. Not sure if it's stress, more spicy food, or what. I guess I'll find out.

I did the upper endoscopy a long time ago. I don't remember anything. I was out the whole time. It only took an hour I was told. Went home the same day. Nothing to worry about.

Of course I've had an upper/lower endoscopy, pal. I wouldn't have posted in the thread if I hadn't.

Tranquilo, IAG. It's a piece of cake.

or a piece of hose.

IAG think of it like deepthroating something.

Never had an endoscopy. I once had a cystoscopy. That's where they stick the catheter-with-camera up your urethra - the sheboinker if you will, in the case of males - to gander at your plumbing and then the bladder.

That was quite a ride.

I was conscious the whole time. Might have preferred not to be - just on principle - but whatever. Not in the cards.

The first urination post-cystoscopy was quite the experience of pissing hellfire. It continued to be uncomfortable for a little while, but it was never so bad as the first. Basically a steady return-to-normal process.

All things considered, I think I would rather have an endoscopy.

Wow. I think they send me home in an hour...they have probably made some progress maybe since the time when you had yours....or else just another case of get em in and out asap.

Never had a "bite" out of my esophagus taken during said DT...I mean. I don't do that.

Do you drink a lot of soda?

I had the upper one done, but I was awake the whole time. My throat was numb, btu was fully awake. Wasn't a big deal.

Not really.. I started a bit once this started...thinking it would settle my stomach..but as a general rule no.

Soda and acidic drinks/foods will probably make your condition worse. Was just wondering if you were having the same reaction I was having. I had a stomach ulcer from drinking Coke like water.

I drank only water for a couple of weeks and took about a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with mother (Bragg's is a good brand) in the morning and at night. No more ulcer. No doctor necessary.

I started drinking Coke again about a month later and the ulcer came back shortly afterward. I quit drinking soda again and just drink water now and the ulcer has not come back.
