Yeah man I have to play marathon sessions because a I'm super tight aggro, it pays but only over time. Today's will be painfully long because I came in to see that I'm behind this guy for 4th in hours for the week which pays $300 and I'm 3 hours behind the guy in 3rd for $500, I figure 14 hours or so should do it, but ugh lol. Noted about volatility. I appreciate the endorsement as I've been a little scared and unsure but moving forward regardless. You seem to have a good handle on how the cash gaming grind works so feel free at any point to let any advice you have fly man, it's appreciated.

You might appreciate this story. I felt this kid (set over set) at 1/2 and he says "hey man can I keep a buck? I was saving it to tip for a drink" I tell him that's fine and let him keep it. 5 minutes later he comes back with another full buy in and no, he didn't pay me back.. :whengy:

well all these pointlessly annoying characters is the primary reason I haven't been tempted to play for quite a while. Last time Bellagio, probably the classiest poker room in LV. Guy at center of table a big meathead, starts yelling/arguing on the phone with his girlfriend. This goes on for like 5 minutes. When he's done, instead of being annoyed like I was, other yokels at the table start commensurating and it leads to an unbearable hour long discussion. I haven't wanted to sit at a table since.

I think you'll make it ok sticking to playing tight and avoid going on tilt. No overly creative play is likely needed at those levels to make a little, and cash in on your freebies. If it's possible for you to choose weaker tables that's another factor you should consider.

Ah that does sound really annoying, I just throw on the ear buds when Shit like that happens. Things involving sound annoy me - bad singing, whistling, people watching tv on their phones with no headphones, etc. Dude, be respectful - not that tough. The guy for the dollar I found more absurd, pathetic and kind of funny in a stupid way than annoying. Here's one that did annoy me though. This kid sitting next to me rapping and berating players on the table, I'm thinking whatever, just keep that shit away from me. Well he didn't. At about 130 am the other night I'm debating wrapping up a solid session and as soon as my cards are dealt he shouts "I saw one of his cards, it's an ace". I had no ace and said "he's full of shit" and the dealer chuckled, I wasn't smiling and I gave the dealer a look to say why aren't you doing something about this. The kid didn't affect action by doing that but he did affect me, it was a total bush league move to try to put to put me on tilt. I decide to let it go and head out. Well last night we played again very late and I was pretty intoxicated and not in the mood for his shit. He makes some snide comment to me and I immediately tell the dealer to call the floor. They come over and I explain things and ask them to keep an eye on him. Two of them watch him like a hawk which I could tell made him implode, lol. Then they leave and he's all whatever you have to say say it to my face, so I do. It ended with him leaving with his buddy for a few minutes (I'm sure to calm him down because I could tell he wanted to get real nasty with me). He comes back in calmed down and gives me a "yo give me a pound man" so I reluctantly do. My standpoint is I'll put up with a little shit but nothing that affects my play and no one is going be a repeating concern, if I'm hitting a spot I'll likely be one of regulars there that week so that would really screw things up.

Some of the conversations with the other sharks are pretty cool however talking theory, promos etc.

Yeah man I'm big on opponent selection and will move when it's all sharks. When it's not the most popular spot and it's 1 pm on a Tuesday there's not much you can do but when there's more action you can hop around but you have to play those hours to take down hours promos.

Looking forward to checking out Parx tomorrow since I'm finishing my leg at Harrah's tonight, the action is supposed to be poppin there - a lot of tourists. Nice room here though, very chill and I really like the staff and the regulars.

I agree on not much creativity being necessary here.

I don't play anything on line currently.

I envy you a little in the since that you got a new plan and excited and discovering new opportunities. That's the most fun in gambling imo.
Even though I do alright, I've been at it for so long that it's hard for me to get excited about anything. Kind of in a creative lull, sorta speak :dunno:

Hah I hear you man it's still almost always fun to me.One lesson I keep relearning - playing hungover is not fun. So yeah, drink less.

I just had a visitor leave after a week visit. Poor guy is suffering from PTSD and alcoholism.... I like the guy but after a week of listening to his ramblings, this morning I called him on it and he got angry at me for not wanting to listen anymore. I spent no less than 4-6 hours a day listening to it, I call him on it once and he got angry and left in a huff 5 minutes later....

Very old friend and now I feel badly because i set him off.

#bummer


Side note; He also has a crazy neigbour lady. She doesn't sound as bad as Matty's though.

I'll keep that in mind, Muddy thank you. Quincy you kept it real imo nothing wrong with that. He can adjust his behavior and your friendship can further evolve.

Not even. He has a persecution complex and he was a victim of workplace harassment. I don't think that he was that mentally stable before he joined the trade. A lot of it seems to stem from the fact that his parents divorced when he was young and he was kind of forgotten in the mix.... crazy stuff.

I know a lot of the elevator mechanics would tease him a lot and mock him for whatever reason... He seems like he places all of his mental energy seeking to be angry with someone for slighting him in some way, while never blaming himself for anything... I always thought he was just trying to scam the employer but now I'm pretty sure that he is truly a bit nuts.

Ah nice man. In an uneventful thus far session at spot #3 right now will copy all that to the forum when I'm in front of the desktop. This place is really nice and they know it, you have to pay for beers here at my level and you don't anywhere else in town, not a huge deal on that though. I have this table labeled as a couple decent players and three sharks besides me, it is early on a Sunday though, for doing this.
 
I'd wager with confidence that I've put more time in on the tables than everyone on this site combined. I played between 10-12 hours/day for a solid five years. With that, I have the disadvantage of knowing how good poker used to be. Today, it's a lot harder to make a living at the tables. The ratio of donks is a lot lower these days. Although, I'm not sure what the Philly scene is like at all. My exposure is purely based on online and Vegas tables. So, perhaps it may be worthwhile to play there. I'm not sure.

My advice:

Keep good records. Calculate your hourly rate throughout a month. Make sure your opportunity cost of playing poker is worthwhile (i.e. you're either making more money than you would otherwise or you're getting more utility out of not having a different occupation).

Don't burn yourself out. Playing a lot of hours can get tiring and after a while, it becomes like any other job. You hear the same table talk time after time and getting big hands doesn't drive the adrenaline any longer.

Don't drink at the table. Profitable play sometimes involves making tough decisions. Can you really lay down a set against an over set if liquid courage is influencing your thought process?
