So if I have $1000 in the NASDAQ, and $333 in SQQQ.

NASDAQ index fund closes 1% up. I'm at $1010 in my index fund and at $323 (-3%) in SQQQ, minus fees and shit?

Basically, I'm out the vig?

I understand that the inverse ETF isn't a perfect negative image of the index (and that my index fund isn't perfectly aligned with the actual index.)

Yeah, even in a perfect world you're out the transaction cost.

Just as you would be if you went long and shorted the same position.

Disregard the posts on this page MrQ. Buy one or several TD e-Series index funds.

Did you set up the Global Trading option Matty?

I more or less understand what you guys are talking about btw... it is just me trying to decide what I am going to buy.

No, I just added a $US component so I can hold US cash and not pay shitty conversion fees every time I buy and sell 'murican stuff.

If you want to keep it simple, and you probably do at this stage, you can buy international stuff through ETFs that are traded on the TSX.

i.e.

CHI (Chinese ETF)
TUR (Turkish ETF)
XID (Indian ETF)

But again, them e-Series index funds are the best product for a small portfolio 'cause the fees are kept to a minimum.

Take a look at Great Canadian Gaming Matty... This one lets you invest in problem gamblers!!!!

I have been watching this one for awhile as well.

This one lets you invest in problem gamblers!!!!

Oooh, thanks MrQ. In Caspers we trust.

Wait, it's real physical casinos. These things are doomed.

Here is a good article Matty which confirms what you are saying.. I'm going to go this way for now...

Nice. And yeah, opening the account was a pain. I think banks have their B-team work weekends. The stupid bitch who "helped" me had no idea what e-Series funds were, and she tried to get me to buy into a shitty managed mutual fund (which is what the wife went with because she has no interest in self-investing her money. Whatever, it's better than leaving the money in a plain savings account, which is what she had been doing until then.)

After repeating the same thing three times (I just want to have access to your e-Series funds through a TFSA brokerage account), she left the office and came back 5 minutes later. You were right, we can do that.

Women :facepalm::facepalm:

Done Matty... tdb966, tdb908, tdb911, tdb900; 25% each.

Nice. I should prolly get some tdb966 as well, but the woman's got that covered with her mutual fund.

Kids today do not go to the casino. Shit, people do not go out anymore. Losing your money online is more discreet.

Etc.

If the dollar continues to fall to the US dollar, you may see a lot more US citizens up at the casinos Matty. Not only that but the population in general is getting older, not younger.
