I usually hate oak, but I am trying to get mom's basement out of 1975 without moving out all my stuff from Denver. I found this on CL. I don't want to spend money on new furniture because I don't know how long I will be here but this looks like a decent price? The last time I bought a desk was 10 or more years ago so I have no idea what they cost and don't really have much time to look. I lost out on an Ethan Allen armoire the other day cuz I wasted time researching.

I want to make sure I'm not just getting crazy on CL though.. I would think I could get at least $100 back out of it if I want to resell...

I guess I'll go look at it anyway.

I bought two prints off CL yesterday. Picked up from guy in apartment building that had me all sorts of spooked out..but I love the pictures,

It's 7 foot wide if you have the room for it. Price is OK. I will offer $100 and see if he is willing to part with it. You have to pick it up so figure out how you are going to take it home. Do not go there alone or without a gun. It could be a trap.

I'm also looking at this. http://siouxfalls.craigslist.org/fuo/4541541016.html

Dammit Mr X..now you've got me 2nd guessing it. I thought the price was decent...mostly wanted to check that, but hideous? Fok. Like I said I'm not partial to Oak, but I have a big basement to fill and would like to find a cheap desk. Hideous? Not that anyone would really see it anyway I guess.

The basement is basically going to be cleared out. He said he would deliver it for a price..asked how much and he said to wait and see if I liked it first. I bought a similar "hideous" (ha) desk years ago and paid about 800 and it was smaller. My biggest concern is I am an impulse shopper and don't want to end up with a bunch of crap because I am bored.

He was an older gentleman on the phone. I think he's safe. He had his name etc listed as well.

I'm not going to be able to get hideous out of my head now though. Dammit Mr. X.

I would say 1997 ish Matty...we have 3 desks in this house but they are all the simple really old school basic ones. Want to get rid of all those. Maybe I just fork out the money for one I really like, but until I figure out where I'm going after this (if anywhere) don't want to get carried away on furniture.

Ok. I went and looked at it. Very nice guy. Awesome house. Huge and on one level. I had never seen anything like that. Looked like staged to sell. Nothing out of place. Pristine.

Anyway, desk looks like the picture. I didn't negotiate cuz I thought the price was good to begin with. He said he would deliver it, haul downstairs and set it up for $75.00.

I told him I would get back to him in a few hours. He offered to hold it for me for a day or so, but I don't want him to have to do that. I just need to make a decision. And we all know how good I am at those.

Personally I kind of like it (other than the Oakishness) but if you guys think it's hideous, my family will abhor it. But they aren't the ones who have to look at it. Fok. I dk.

That was my first thought Bacon.

And that was my second thought Cami. Actually my 3rd after "hideous?' really?

I think it's got to be worth the price. I do feel like I'm jumping on it though cuz it's on CL whereas if it were something in a store I would take more time and think it over.

Sometimes decisions totally incapacitate me. I've probably said before therapist said that I am so afraid of making the wrong decision that I am unable to make one.

Well, look at this way. It's just a desk. It's only $150. If you buy it, and use it, great. If you don't, you can always re-sell it - especially when back to school rolls around.

Also, if you do buy it, an end up moving at some point, even if you don't take it with you, again, you only spent $150, so leaving it behind wouldn't be a big deal.

Size wise it may seem like a large purchase, but monetarily, it's not.
