I just had the shit scared out of me. Bought a UV Lamp off of amazon for like 22 bux about two years ago. Use it to do my own nails and have never had a problem with it. Until tonight. I was curing my gel and I was on my second nail. The light in these lamps usually appears blue, well...while my fingers were in there, all of a sudden it makes this loud sparking noise and the blue light turns yellow/white, it stars sparking and literally smoking like a fucking cigaret, I pull my hand out of there fast as possible while turning it off with the other and then unplugging it almost all at the same time. Thank god I am so freaking quick when shit gets real like that, I'm telling you it had the potential to burst into flames. I know this because I have seen things involving light and high voltages burst into flames before.

I wait about five minutes and try turning it on again (risky, and stupid, I know), curious if it was just a problem with the bulbs, or the apparatus itself. Nothing happens. I take out the bulbs and examine them one by one, notice a couple have turned black inside, so I think, ok, maybe just these bulbs blew, so I plug the ones in that still appear normal, and nothing.

After freaking out and talking with Steve, I come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter if the bulbs blew or not, sure I got my monies worth out of this lamp, but it would be in my best interest to purchase one of professional value and to do more research as to when one should change the bulbs.

Fok. Scared the shit out of me. So glad I am quick to act and think right when shit goes wrong.

Certainly not my first scare of any kind in my life, but still....could have ended up bad.

Anything that requires electricity can turn on you so easily.

Anyone else have a similar situation?

I was fkn with some electric about a month ago...going to fast...not thinking clearly....thought I shut something off but it was actually live all the way back to the pole without any breaker..Looked like a fireball about 2 foot by 2 foot....saw crazy/blind spots ass spots for about 15 minutes.

Not one upping you cam....I think when you are chillin doin some nail action....last thing you are thinkin about is sparks and noise and smoke...

Nice reaction time:venditto:

House, I've had to splice and reconnect a few wires in my day for chandeliers and such. my plain of attack has always been to do it when I have the most day light, and to turn all, including the main breaker off.

In my house, the circuits are all fucked up, normally one outlet has the same circuit, not in this house, they have the top and bottom of each outlet on a separate circuit, the bottom outlet stays on a continuous circuit at all times. the top of each outlet is circuited to the light switch on the wall..I.E. for those that don't know, you can turn said circuit off with the switch on the wall....it's all fucked up, so if you want to work on any one outlet in this house, you have to turn the breaker off to the entire room, and another breaker that ties the light switches to the outlets, and make sure the switch on the wall is turned to off too. So essentially, there are two breakers for each room, and one breaker for the entire house ....if I am making sense....basically never came across an outlet or wiring that was set to two different circuits. and I wonder why the outlets on the one side of the house always have to be reset. fucking retarded if you ask me.

You know each bathroom in this house has four switches?!! It's insane, the wiring makes no sense. none at all.

Just a heads up here.
When you see a thread started by IAG titled "Fucking Shit" you can bet the dolphin has acted up the same way as camis nail thingamjig.

:lmao: I hope for her vaginas sake, she doesn't experience anything of the like with her BOB. IAG, always, ALWAYS protect your vagina. but you already know that. :winkwink:

Does cami have the fastest reaction time of anyone here? i think so

I could be wrong, but I really think I do. I've always been quick on my feet, good under pressure. I might panic on the inside, but my brain always takes over and I don't even realize what I am doing until the deed is done. I thank god for that. I have had a scare with Bacon, and a couple with my children, and a few with friends, and had I not reacted so quickly, their outcomes could have been so much worse. Just like with tools, when someone else depends on you, or when you are a single person, you HAVE TO learn to handle your own. There is no other option.

I have to credit some of this to taking certain classes and courses through out middle school, high school, and my early adulthood....a few EMT courses can really teach you how to stay calm and react well in any given situation.

Youre fkn smart.

Heres what I did.

My house has a main breaker box and a subpanel. I was changing out the subpanel which was piggy backed of the main breaker of the house. Typically when you shut off a breaker the wire connected to that breaker is dead...because the panel is what feeds the breaker..and shutting it off kills power to the wire....simple.

Well in the case of the main breaker....obviously....shutting off the main breaker is killing the panel....but not the wires going to the breaker. I wasn't thinking about that. So I actually had the wires feeding the sub panel still live from the pole...I removed the panel without a problem actually..Still felt some buzzing in my hands....I was like....that's weird but whatever...see I wasn't grounded so I was part of the circuit.. When I went to feed the wires back into the new panel I mounted...I hit metal and boom....Knocked me back...or I dove back....IDK...
saw a lot of colors...mostly different shades of white....sat for a minute or two...then went and pulled the meter while muttering to myself half blind about how stupid I was.

Right there

I replaced my subpanel because it was fuses and I needed more circuits for my basement.

But if you are interested...I know some guys running subpanels that are fed by wires pushed back up into the meter box and taken off the top of the meter...I think we both know what happens to the electric bill when you do that.
