I think you are correct on both counts....which was, of course, my original thought, but I second guessed myself, which I often do. I always thought "dance card" was a figurative term. There actually were actual dance cards! Where's that "what I learned today" thread? I wonder if my mom has an old dance card around. It would be fun to see...but in latter years mom became inclined to chuck, so I doubt it.
