The latest update makes the experience worst. Here is how to fix it.

1. Type chrome://flags into your browser's address bar.

2. Search for the option labeled "Enable Instant Extended API."

3. Change its setting from "Default" to "Disabled."

4. Restart your browser.

That's it, you'll now be back to the regular old Chrome "New Tab" setup.

Will be doing this ty Rogie big help!

I just updated to the latest Chrome, don't notice anything different. Although I think I've been running a beta version for several months. I've had the little new tab button thingie for a long while. It's fine.

i like the much larger "most visited 8 pages" on the tab page that was there before the update... is that what this will fix?

Yes Rogie please elaborate. This household NEEDS Chrome to be all it can be on all comps.

I installed an extension called Empty New Tab Page. Dumb that one should have to install an extension for what should be the default behavior, though.

I'm good with Safari but TY RJ for the work being done here!

The new Chrome default "new tab" has the "8 most frequented pages" boxes and the Google Search box.

The old default "new tab" had the option of "8 most frequented pages" boxes or the option of the Apps screen, with the "Recently closed tabs" option on the bottom of both. Those two load locally.

The new one is the equivalent of bookmarking google.com, while leaving the "Recently closed tabs" option within 2 menus in the settings.

I don't like any web page loading as a new tab, and I like the "Recently closed tabs" option quickly accessible.

Oh, now I see it.

:dunno:

Google bar is useless. Just type your search in the address bar.
