Do any of yall get flashbacks? I thought it was all mainly bs but for a while now there are times where I zone out for a few seconds and a memory just plays out on the spot very vividly, very randomly, sometimes it's a quick short memory and there are other times that can extend for some time. Matty once diagnosed me with PTSD. Reading I see there's some relation to it, but fuk I've never been in a war literally. wtf should I get this for?

It totally doesn't affect me, in fact I like them. It might be something as little or insignificant as a rock on a sidewalk that can trigger it and bang I zone out, sometimes for a second and sometimes pretty long.

For the most part I enjoy them, but the depth of them seems very intriguing, and I can't explain them.

Muddy, after your drug use, is this something you can relate with? Is it a topic in the meetings?

mine comes in the form of dreams...but im constantly taking shit to help me sleep, so i assume the meds trigger them

something to take into consideration is the time you have to daydream...if you were working 12 hours a day on something and constantly were dealing with work issues and had less time to reflect, you would probably see less of these episodes...

we think about too much shit when we get bored

It has come up a bit in recovery meetings - but mainly as relates to talk of trauma. Many trauma survivors do become addicts (and, if they're lucky, also make it to recovery). And many trauma survivors experience flashbacks so it can come up in the sort of deep, honest discussion you get at those meetings.

Where I have heard a lot of talk about it is in the work I did with CAST-Canada where we did workshops not just for addictions workers but also professionals dealing with trauma survivors - and we would have panelists and speakers who had suffered different kinds of trauma who would describe their experiences.

War, btw, is just one type of trauma. My friend Tom for example, suffered prolonged flashbacks as an adult relating to his childhood when his mother had multiple suicide attempts where she would time the slashing of her wrists with him getting home from school. And he would flashback to the blood and he always talks about the boots of the paramedics etc.

Sexual abuse is another very big category of trauma.

They are very different experiences but they have some very similar post traumatic symptoms.

The difference from what you describe is they generally do not like them. They can become quite prolonged and horrifying. I'm not sure what to make of what you are describing.

Myself, I do not have flashbacks. But then I never suffered any particular trauma.

I am definitely cursed with a very vivid memory. I remember a whole lot of shit I would rather not. I often wish I didn't remember so much. But that is a totally different thing.

I used to have those dreams when I took pills to sleep. Since I am so tired now, I don't take anything and I never dream.

Apparently though I have started to talk to myself all the time the last few weeks.
