Yeah, a lot of people went goofy over Adam Sandler in the roles that did not involve the lispy child-voices and armpit music. The contrast is striking. In my mind, people went (and continue to go) overboard. Very similar to the calls for Oscar nominations for Jim Carrey in his first more serious roles.

They are both fine. They are not Ben Kingsley. They are not Denzel. But they have done some decent work.

However "Adam Sandler movie" means a specific thing. And it's not good.

His roles are pretty predictable for sure.

I don't remember disliking Click. I thought the premise was ridiculous, but I thought that I actually liked it a little. Maybe it was just because of Kate Beckinsale.

I typically dislike Sandler comedic movies.

I haven't watched Funny People. Punch Drunk Love was overrated IMO.

I think a lot of people have low expectations when an actor converts from comedy to drama so an overwhelming performance isn't necessary. The same thing happened with Robin Williams and Jim Carey.

I don't think anyone here stated Adam Sandler was Denzel Washington. In fact, I am pretty certain all I said was Punch Drunk Love was his best film, which it was.

Very noticeable and relevant differences here.

I was just about to point out that arguable or not Coug's was yet again stating an opinion as a fact but then MonkeyFocker's post shed light on a point I now get to make.
