Wally, I'd love it if you did a a few tutorial threads on some basic stuff, for a guy like me that golfs maybe 2-4 times a year.

I'll think about breaking out the camera and making some videos in the next few weeks. Explaining how is one thing but showing gives a much experience.

One thing or maybe the hardest thing to try and teach someone is putting. Putting is so much just having the feel for it that explaining it or even demonstrating it sometimes just doesn't translate. There are times when the line just jumps out at a guy who is naturally a good putter.

I can hit the ball long off the tee and at times stay pretty accurate. I'm really good with my 2-5 for some reason, and I almost never practiced.

I can't control my 7, 8, 9 irons, pitching wedge worth any sort of shit. Usually they are line drives and not lofty pop ups that can land and stick on a green. I will mess with my foot placement and hands, and figure it out if I practice a bit. but then i'll lose it by the time I play again in 3-6 months.

never really think about putting, as i'm usually just happy to be ON the green

Arch, what you describe is uncommon. Most people hit the 7-PW much easier and have the most trouble with the long irons 3-5. Chances are it's not your feet you need to mess around with. Most likely it's the ball placement in your stance. For the longer irons the ball should be further forward (closer to your lead foot) and progressively move further back (closer to your back foot) the shorter the irons go. Without seeing you swing or the shot result I would imagine you have the ball too far forward on the shorter irons and instead of coming in steep you are almost coming up out of your swing before contact.

Changing your foot position should (SHOULD) be used for when you want to work the ball from left to right (draw/hook) of right to left (fade/slice). A closed stance will promote a draw or hook and the open stance will help fade or slice the ball. Arch, don't get too involved with foot positioning. Set your feet under your shoulders and square yourself to the target line.
