They need to get rid of the new equipment with all the Kevlar and shit in it.

Boston uUniversity is doing research where they are getting pieces of the brain of deceased athletes and studying the brain. The findings are frightening, I have heard docs on the radio and in a few newspaper interviews. If you have time google it, and you will be amazed of what you find.

The ex-Chicago Bear Hunter Hillenmeyer is donating his brain to that study at BU after he dies.

Wondered instead of a hard-shell helmet, they made helmets out of a material similar to a wrestling mat.

Pronger's such an ass, he probably caused more injury then he suffered. What was the hit that got him? And what's with Crosby?

They so should eliminate most of the rough play in hockey. It would be so much better to watch and safer. A fucking goon is able to neutralize a player of great skill. And instead of witnessing great skill we end up watching roughhousing. :cono:

Yep.

Pronger is one of the few dudes in the league I can't feel sorry for.

Fucker got a taste of his own medicine.

A lot of it is now just the fact that players are all 20-30lbs heavier and they are all much better skaters than they used to be; Not too, too long ago player's shifts used to be almost 2 minutes long and there was a lot less hard hitting because everyone was slower and smaller. Now, the shifts are 35 seconds all out 100% effort and the players all know how to hit. I have no clue why hitting from behind into the boards or targeting the head has been allowed for as long as it has. One way to look at it is that all these guys work together for a living and that you should not attempt to hurt a fellow employee. I understand that they are alpha male jocks but still; How can you cross-check someone from behind, face 1st into the boards. If they turned NHL into Olympic style hockey, I wouldn't be upset one bit.

The one problem that will be tough to solve will be the size of the NHL arena. Most players and owners know that the easiest way to help avoid these concussions is to make the rinks bigger. Not one owner wants to get rid of 2 or 3 rows of seating around the rink because it will hurt the revenue stream. It will eventually take some massive legal action on someone's part to get the game to the point where it will be somewhat safer for the players. How many Sid Crosby's will have their career's ruined before that is addressed, I don't know.

Is the equipment all that different these days? Very strange that all these guys are suddenly dropping like flies.

I think the players are just bigger, faster, stronger. Players went to helmets after the Bill Masterson death. The downside of helmets is the high-sticking started by the Europeans in the 70s to fend off the stronger players.

Let's not forget about the expansion era. How many players are currently in the league that wouldn't have been in the league say 15 years ago? Guys like Steve Moore never even would have been in the league to take a shot at Naslund.

I think expansion has really fucked up the league. This is why the NHL is constantly tinkering with the rules, they needtoadjust to the diluted talent levels that currently exist.
